Door Knockers in Rome
In the heart of Rome, most of the houses date back to the Renaissance period, likely influenced by the architectural principles of temples, with grand and impressive thresholds known for their golden proportions. Instead of a doorbell, there is the door knocker. What intrigued me most was whether one could deduce something about the residents from the door handles and knockers. Pleasant or threatening lions, monsters and demons, geometry, aesthetics, and color combinations—all reflect the homeowner's choices. What do you think? Who appears to invite guests warmly, and who seems more reserved? Who flaunts their wealth, and who resides in a more modest dwelling? Which door is newly crafted but seldom opened, and from which humble home might one hesitate to request even a crumb of bread? Take a closer look and imagine the stories of those who live behind each door.
